Being authentic means living in a way that is congruent with your true self, your values, your beliefs, and your emotions. It is aligning your internal and external worlds.
Hello everyone, my name is Annalea (Annie) Sweat. My story starts in Anhui, China, where I was left as a baby near a stadium and taken in by an orphanage. A family adopted me, and I have been in Georgia ever since. Growing up, I often felt caught between two worlds: that of my ethnicity and the culture of my adopted family. I have always had a deep drive to connect: connect to myself, connect with others, connect how systems work, connect puzzle pieces to understand why. My desire to understand my identity, find a sense of belonging, and learn about the world heavily shapes my passion and the work I do with clients.
I graduated from the University of North Georgia with a Master of Science in Counseling. Before that, I earned a dual degree from the University of Georgia in Psychology and Sociology. Throughout my education and work with clients, I have noticed a recurring theme: Due to individual life experiences and the demands of everyday life, people struggle to connect with themselves and others. This theme can be seen with almost every population, but I have found it exceptionally pertinent for those in the neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC communities.
In today’s society, feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and unfulfilled has become the new norm. Our bodies often feel trapped in fight, flight, or freeze. We are constantly flooded with news, media, notifications, assignments, etc. Society moves fast, and things feel polarized. We rarely, if ever, find time to slow down, relax, and reflect. We are pulled in so many directions and swept up into the chaos that it has become easier and easier to lose ourselves and harder and harder to live in a way that feels aligned and authentic.
So, how do we hit pause? How do we recenter? How do we reconnect to ourselves? How do we live authentically?
The process starts with an investment in yourself. An investment of intentionality to take time to find a space that lets you decompress, release the pressure to perform, and allows you to get curious.
My work with clients centers on creating an environment that fosters safety by helping you slow down, get grounded, drop the mask, and explore your internal and external world. I work collaboratively with teens and adults to build sustainability, strengthen connections, and find clarity. Some of my main areas of passion are working with neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ clients, and first- and second-generation immigrants. I love working with clients to help them navigate ADHD, Autism, anxiety, burnout, self-exploration, and major life transitions.
In session, I show up by engaging in a compassionate, supportive, and straightforward manner. I will invite you as a whole person into the therapeutic experience by affirming and empowering your identity, values, and story. I deeply care about your unique experience, the environment around you, and your overall well-being. You can expect holistic care to help you regulate and engage in meaningful growth and change.
Quieting the noise of the external world, finding spaces of respite, and resetting to shape a fulfilling life is a journey. It is a rewarding investment in yourself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The process may not always feel linear, but if you are ready to reconnect to yourself and start listening to your own compass to live a more sustainable and authentic life, I would be honored to join you.
